As a lifelong resident of the Pennsylvania coal region, I have spent the last 20 years as a PHP developer and independent contractor. During that time, I’ve seen technology evolve and change rapidly. I’ve had the Coalcracker.com domain registered for quite some time with plenty of ideas for what I wanted to turn it into, but never found the time to put into it as a side project.

Recently, I have found my interest in AI technology growing almost simultaneously with my interest in travel, so I decided to start using Coalcracker as a way to explore how AI technologies can be utilized in my line of work.

I have been experimenting with ChatGPT and other OpenAI technologies, along with various other AI tools to build and develop the site. My goal is to share my experiences working with these technologies and how they can be used in PHP development.

ChatGPT is a language model based on deep learning algorithms and can generate human-like responses to prompts provided by the user.

I actually used ChatGPT to write the much of this blog post and then refined it with my own words. Providing a brief overview of the site to ChatGPT was enough to fill out details for the categories and come up with this post. I’m somewhat amazed at how well the language model is able to understand my intent and produce coherent sentences and paragraphs.

My hope is that over time, ChatGPT and other language models will help me save time and enable me to focus on other aspects of the site’s development while still generating high-quality content.

As a PHP developer, I’m always looking for ways to streamline my workflow and improve my productivity, and I believe ChatGPT can be an invaluable tool in that regard.

But life can’t be all about technology and development. As our children have grown, my wife, who is a Realtor and I have developed a strong sense of wanderlust and a desire to explore new places and revisit familiar places as well.

In true Coalcracker fashion, I cannot simply relax and take time off. Even during our travels, I find a way to incorporate my work into our adventures. Fpr instance, I am testing out ideas for using ChatGPT and other OpenAI technology, as well as other AI tools to map out routes and create itineraries for day trips and overnight stays. This allows me to gather research for Coalcracker as well as my other development, while simultaneously enjoying time with my wife.

Food is also a crucial component of our Coalcracker adventures. As we travel, we seek out the best eats, from hidden gems to fine dining establishments, and we are excited to share our findings here on the blog. We believe that food and travel go hand in hand, and we are always on the lookout for new and exciting culinary experiences.
