CoalCracker Musical Mosaics: Blind Melon “Change”

Musical Mosaics is a new category on CoalCracker.com. For over two decades, I’ve been a PHP developer and independent contractor in the heart of Pennsylvania’s coal region. Recently, my passion for AI technology and travel inspired me to transform CoalCracker into a platform where I explore AI’s applications in my work, share travel adventures, and embark on creative projects like this one.

With these CoalCracker Musical Mosaics, I combine my love for music with the innovative capabilities of AI tools like ChatGPT and DALL-E. Over the past year, I’ve been experimenting with these technologies to turn song lyrics into art. During this creative journey, I’ve rediscovered Blind Melon. As I navigate life’s challenges, their music has become a source of inspiration and appreciation. Shannon Hoon was an absolute lyrical genius, a misunderstood talent the world lost far too soon.

Many days, I’ve spent working while listening to endless playlists on Spotify. During breaks, I use DALL-E to create images inspired by the lyrics of the songs I’m enjoying. This experiment covers a wide range of music, mostly from the ’80s and ’90s, featuring artists like Blind Melon, Foo Fighters, Pink Floyd, Alice in Chains, Skid Row, Jimmy Eat World, Machinehead, The Offspring, and more.

It’s been fascinating to see the unique creations that emerge and to experiment with different prompts to generate various styles and types of images. These endless nights immersed in code and melodies have led to extensive Spotify playlists, with each song’s melody weaving through my consciousness. Often, a lyric catches my attention and sparks a sudden urge to use ChatGPT to transform those words—or even entire songs—into pictures with DALL-E 3.

I decided to share some of my favorite images here as CoalCracker Musical Mosaics, starting with this post featuring “Change” by Blind Melon. I hope you enjoy them as much as I have.

Early on in my journey, I also used Stability AI’s dream studio to generate some images as well. I did a few for the following lyrics / prompt

Prompt:

Keep on dreamin’ boy, ’cause when you stop dreamin’ it’s time to die

Some of the first Images I asked DALL-E 3 to generate for Blind Mellon “Change” was when it was first introduced into the ChatGPT interface. I hadn’t quite figured out the prompts for the different artistic styles at that point and the image format was a bit different, but the results were interesting, nonetheless.

Prompt:

Can you create an image to describe these song lyrics:

Take a look around, look up way to the sky, hell yeah
And when your deepest thoughts are broken
Keep on dreamin’ boy, ’cause when you stop dreamin’ it’s time to die

Prompt:

How about this:

Keep on dreamin’ boy, ’cause when you stop dreamin’ it’s time to die
