Anticipation and excitement are natural feelings when returning to a familiar spot. For my wife and I, our fourth visit to Tropicana Atlantic City was no different. We looked forward to a full five nights, especially with the lure of a 10x tier credit promo which hinted at more gambling fun than our past trips. However, our recent start has taken a twist we hadn’t quite expected.

Our entry into Tropicana was marked by disappointment. The South Tower suite we had booked well in advance was off the table. Our redirect to the Havana Tower was not much better, with a broken escalator and a suite with a moldy scent. This suite lacked the luxury of the South Tower suites we’d grown accustomed to. The frustration was real, especially as Diamond Plus members.
This isn’t our first run-in with check-in issues at Tropicana. A previous trip brought similar challenges, where they tried to give us a different room. After some strong words from my wife, we eventually got the suite we had originally booked. This time, however, the manager was unyielding, choosing to turn her back – literally, she just walked away – on the situation.

Another unexpected hurdle was our inability to enjoy the Diamond Plus benefits, even though the room was booked on my credit card. It felt like the more we poured into Tropicana, both in terms of money and loyalty, the less they seemed to value our patronage. It’s an issue I’d overheard other guests discuss during our January stay at Harrah’s, where some remarked about the lack of attention to regular customers. Now, it feels like we’re living that very concern.
However, not everything was bleak. Our view showcased Ocean Casino Atlantic City, stirring up ideas for future visits. With our Rock Royalty status from Hardrock, a trip there or to Ocean Casino might be in the cards for our next Atlantic City adventure.

To add to our challenges, our room’s safe was locked upon our arrival, causing some concern about securing our belongings. But, we did find some joy in our first evening. Our dinner at Golden Dynasty was a delight, just like our last visit. Our friendly server from before was there, and his warm demeanor provided a much-needed positive touch to our day.

Tomorrow, we hope to move to the suite we had originally booked. If this change doesn’t occur, our stay might end sooner than planned. The Havana Tower doesn’t quite feel right for us.
Thinking back on our experiences at Tropicana, it’s clear that if this had been our first visit, a return might have been questionable. We’re trying to stay optimistic and enjoy our time, but there’s a noticeable shift in the quality of service we’re receiving. The next few days will be telling in deciding the course of our relationship with Tropicana.
